Sore!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Colleen @ 2:29 pm

I lifted weights yesterday. YOUCH! I didn’t even lift heavy. My goal is to lift two times a week. Light weights, nothing serious, about 20 minutes total. If I’m THIS sore, (ok, I’m not that sore, but enough to notice) then it must be working. It’s amazing how cardiovascular wise, I’m probably pretty damn healthy. Body fat wise, I’m healthy, but I know I can get leaner (more lean?). I eat relatively well, but could always eat better. My new approach will be to eat every 2 hours, going no more than 3 hours! I’ll eat a regular breakfast, have a snack 2 hours later, lunch, snack to hours later, workout, have a small post workout snack, then dinner. I did this yesterday and when I got home I found I wasn’t that hungry and didn’t munch while I made my lunch for the next day.
Running will be over 50 miles this week. I LOVE it! I love being above 40 miles. Anything over that is just an added bonus. I love that I can run 9 miles in the middle of the week. Eventually, I will top out at 12 miles as my mid week runs! Can’t wait! Thank goodness though for my home treadmill. Best investment ever!
Swim class tonight too! Good thing I have left over pea soup for a quick and easy dinner (along with a hefty salad).

18 weeks to go!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Colleen @ 3:16 pm

It is 18 weeks until Pocono. Yesterday I ran a 5k and my finish time was 25:19. Now, normamlly, I would be disappointed with that time, however, this was such a hilly course that I was ok with it. I run it again in 2 weeks and would like to do better. The thing is, I felt ok running the 8 minute miles! I could have kept going and I wasn’t about to die. I didn’t even have the pukey feeling crossing the finish line.
I’m not guaranteeing myself a BQ, 8:20 for 26.2 miles is going to be HARD! But I’m feeling more confident by the day in a PR! Once I get some more fitness tests under my belt reflecting a 3:40 marathon finish time, then I’ll feel better, until then, I gotta keep pushin!
Boston will always be there. I’m not stressing over it.

Calories

I was reading one of my endurance sports nutrition books last night. I calculated my weight, and my activity level and I am NOT eating enough! I think this may be hindering my weight loss attempt. I should be over 2,000 a day and I MIGHT hit that, if not just less. Who would think not eating enough would be the reason why you can’t lose weight! I know I have to try eating more, I just need it not to be chips and cookies and junk. LOL. I find once I start running over 40 miles per week I’m ALWAYS hungry. I’ll be close to 50 by the end of this week. I can only imagine how I’ll feel in a few weeks around 60! I’m trying to not gorge myself though! I’m not trainng for an ultra, just a marathon. Yes, I need to eat, but cookies & chips in abundance are not part of a healthy diet.

Hopefully the blogging will help keep me accountable! So far I’ve had a 6oz yogurt, my favorite bread toasted with pb & a cut up banana.

My run tonight is 5 miles. No other training today. Swim again tomorrow though!

Let’s see how long this lasts

I spend enough freaking time on Facebook that I should just start my own blog. I wonder if anyone will be interested in my life?? I run, I swim, I need to start biking. My goal is to attempt to qualify for the Boston marathon in May. I need to run an 8:20 pace for 26.2 miles!! GAH!!!! My PR is a 3:52. 12 minutes may not sound like a lot, but it’s 30 seconds faster PER mile! I have a great coach though that will help me get ready.

If I don’t BQ (Boston Qualify) I think I can at least PR (personal record).

I’m not a fan of racing. I like to run for fun and I LOVE pacing! However, if I’m going to pace, I need to prove to my group I am more than capable of running the pace I’m helping them run!

On my quest to Boston, I am trying to get to race weight. I would like to lose 10lbs by May. I’m trying hard, however, it’s not working, if nothing, it’s going the WRONG way! I’m trying not to be upset though I’m fit and healthy. But losing 10lbs will be 10lbs less that I have to try and move forward in May while racing.

I guess this is where I decided maybe it would help to start to blog. I can’t say it will be very exciting, but maybe it will be my little place to bitch and moan about things. I can’t make any promises!
